Independent Contractors (Form 1099 filing)

Independent contractors are issued a Form 1099-NEC for compensation paid. Deadline to mail Form 1099 to both the receipient and the IRS for 2026 is January 31, 2026.

Tax filing is required of all businesses. Tax forms depend on the type of business: Form 1120 (Corporations), Form 990 (NonProfit), Form 1065 (Partnerships), Form 1040 (Sole Proprietor) etc

Business Tax filing deadline for C-Corporations and Sole Proprietors operating in a calendar year is April 15, 2026 while S-corporations deadline is March 16, 2026. For non-profit organizations, best industry practice is to file the Form 990 within 6 months of fiscal year end of the business.
